Minneriya National Park

Mineriya national park, Minneriya jeep safari

Minneriya National park is a wild sanctuary which is located in the North Central province of Sri Lanka. Minneriya forest is originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938, the after Minneriya wildlife sanctuary is designated as a national park in 1997. Than the other national parks in Sri Lanka you can find a large number of Sri Lankan Elephants gathering around to grass fields. You can find large gathering during the dry season to drink water from inside water bodies. Normally we recommend you to visit Minneriya national park during May to October. That period is the normal sunny season in Sri Lanka. In rainy seasons they won’t come outside from the forest and cannot see in that period. There is an elephant corridor in between the Minneriya national park, Kaudulla Park and Wasgamuwa Park, so elephants are roaming among these three national parks time to time. Other than elephants there are two endemic monkeys of Sri Lanka, large herbivorous mammals such as Sri Lankan samba deer and Sri Lankan axis deer, rare and endangered species such as Sri Lankan leopard and Sri Lankan sloth bear, the gray slender Loris and many kinds of birds.

Minneriya National Park Jeep safari: According to the details I mention above, Minneriya National Park jeep safari is one of the most popular activities among tourists who visit Sri Lanka. There are two main time periods to go on a jeep safari, but also travellers can customize at your choice. As a well experienced tour company in Sri Lanka we recommend our guests to travel early morning jeep safari like 5.30 am to 9.00 am time and the afternoon jeep safari as 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Because it would be a valuable opportunity to observe unique and amazing wild animals in their natural habitats.
