Yala National Park

Yala national park, Yala jeep safari, Leopard

Ruhunu National Park, or as we all know it, Yala National Park, is located in the south-eastern region of Sri Lanka. It spreads over two provinces: Monaragala district in Uva province and Hambantota district in Southern province. Yala is the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka. In 1990, Yala was nominated as a wild sanctuary, and again in 1938, it was nominated as a national park in Sri Lanka. Yala National Park is in the main city, Tissamaharama. There are many other places to visit in Tissamaharama, but the most famous and most visited place is Yala National Park. This Yala national park consists of five main blocks. They are naming them by different names, like Ruhunu National Park and Kumana National Park. These two are open to the public, and the other three are not. However, you need at least 3–4 hours to cover these two areas. You can especially see leopards in these two blocks.

In here, not like in the other parks, you have to take a safari jeep for the ride. The national park provides the jeeps with soft-tops, which gives them the opportunity to view the wild life. There is best timing for the jeep safaris; normally, morning safaris start around 5.30 am and will continue for 3–4 hours, and afternoon safaris start around 2.30 pm, the same as continuing for 3–4 hours. These timings are due to the habitat of the wild animals; mostly, they are going to the seen places in the early morning hours and afternoon hours for baths, eating, drinking water, etc. And also, there are full-day safaris. It means the ride will starts around 9 am and finishes afternoon 4 or 5 pm. In there, you will be provided with lunch in the forest, where safety is paramount, and some snacks in between. All the above safaris and facilities are provided by us, Tours for Sri Lanka.
